“Balancing the Mind and Body Through Scent” — An Aromatherapist Supporting Autonomic Well-being Through Fragrance
After experiencing autonomic nervous system dysfunction in my late twenties, I encountered aromatherapy and was deeply moved by its healing power. This life-changing experience led me to change careers and become an aromatherapist. Following hands-on work at corporate wellness facilities and an obstetrics and gynecology clinic, I opened my own aromatherapy salon, La Vie en aroma, in Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo, in 2022.
The salon is designed as a “third place” — a space where clients can step away from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with their mind and body. I provide personalized treatments through careful consultations and custom-blended essential oils tailored to each individual’s physical and emotional needs.
I actively incorporate traditional Japanese essential oils such as Kuromoji, Aomori Todomatsu (fir), and Akita Sugi (cedar). With a desire to share the beauty of Japanese botanical culture through scent, I plan to launch a line of aromatherapy products using these native oils in the upcoming fall.
In graduate school, I conducted research on the relaxation effects of aromatherapy and the visualization of autonomic activity through heart rate variability. This academic background allows me to explore aromatherapy from a scientific perspective as well.
By drawing on both the wisdom of scent and the rigor of science, I strive to offer aromatherapy that resonates with the needs of our time.
